What did they tell about it?
“The 50 greatest beers in the world”, Stuart A. Kallen, Citadel Press Book, 1997
Among the world’s greatest beers are: Delirium Tremens (rated number one)…
I could have my live easier. I didn’t have to name Delirium Tremens as my
number one favorite beer. If I simply mentioned a beer everyone has heard of, without the name of a drinker’s disease, I would get more peace…
Words simply cannot describe the intricate flavor of this beer, but that won’t
stop me from trying. The color is golden and the head creamyand light.
The first sip warms my throat and belly like an old woodstove does a log cabin
It’s lightly hopped and surprisingly malty for such an airy, sunshine beer.
With a nose somewhat remiscent of Orval, the aftertasteis fruity, almost cherry. A warming alcoholic glow works its way down the throat to the stomach.
This beer must be sipped slowly so you can revel in each sweet drop.
Delirium Tremens has a big body, a rich mouth feel, and a long, sweet aftertaste.
…This beer is recommended as an aperitif. Try it with dark bread, cheese, and crackers.
“great beers of Belgium”, Michael Jackson, third edition, 1998, Running press
Between the strong golden ales category:
The flippant name was deemed unacceptable in the U.S., where the beer was dubbed Mateen, after an early flemishbrewer in America. Delirium Tremens is
very bright, despite its being bottle conditioned. It has a dense head , a very fruity (greengage? Gooseberry?) bouquet, a sweetish palaten, and a lot of warming alcohol in a rather abrupt finish. The hops used include not only Saaz
but also Styrians, and its fermentation demands three different yeast cultures……Names like Delirium Tremens do not offend in Roman Catholic Belgium where a philosophical view is taken of the risky relationship between
pleasure and punishment…

This aptly named, notoriously strong golden, spiced ale from The Huyghe brewery near ghent is served in a glass painted with pink elephants.

four star beer: Despite the silly name and painted stone-effect bottle, an effective, spicy, strong amber ale. The paint obscures the sediment when pouring
Served in a glass spattered with pink elephants.
About the brewery: They are seen by Belgia n Beerlovers as being on the side of the angels.

aroma: molto intenso, gusto: dolce-amaro, spuma: fine e abbondante,
corpo: decisamente pieno ben sostenuto dalla componente alcolica,
colore: dorato carico, leggeremente velato…..
“ The beer essentials”, F. Paul Pacult, 1997, library of Congress cataloging
Harvest -gold hue, billowy white foam, long head retention, great purity; the bouquet is sour and yeasty, with a heavy dose of clove right through all four passes, the last pass even has some lead pencil in it as the clove takes off like
the space shuttle. In the mouth all the tartness found in the nose become focused on the tongue, to the point that it turns mildly seetsour à la chinese
cooking style…..
